According to Sayyid Ibn Tawus, narrated from (Du'aat) Al-Khatib Al-Mustaghfiri, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) said: If you wish to seek guidance from the Book of Allah, recite Surah Al-Ikhlas three times, then send blessings upon the Prophet and his family three times. Then say: O Allah, I seek guidance from Your Book and I rely on You. Show me from Your Book what is hidden from Your secret that is concealed in Your knowledge. Then open the Quran (which contains all the surahs and verses) and take the guidance from the first line on the first side without counting the pages and lines.
It is also reported by Allama Majlisi in some of the writings of the scholars from the handwriting of Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qatifi, from the handwriting of Ayatollah Allama, from Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) who said: If you wish to seek guidance from the Holy Book, say after the Bismillah: If it is in Your decree and destiny to grant the Shia of the family of Muhammad (peace be upon them) the relief of Your Wali and Your proof over Your creation, then bring forth a verse from Your Book that we may use as a sign for that. Then open the Mushaf and count six pages, and from the seventh, six lines, and see what is in it.
May you be successful in all good.
