Is it obligatory to cover the area of the private parts during prayer? One of the issues according to Sayyid Sistani is that the penis, the testicles, and the anus must be covered, but not what is between them. Does this mean that it is not necessary to cover the areas close to the private parts?

Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings.

Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may God protect him):

It is not obligatory to cover anything other than the private parts, which are the front private part, the testicles, and the anus. It is not necessary to cover the thighs, the buttocks, or the hair that grows at the edges of the private parts.

Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may God protect him):

It is not obligatory to cover anything other than the front private part and the anus along with the testicles. This does not include the thighs or the buttocks, nor the pubic area. However, it is recommended to cover the hair that grows at the edges of the private parts.
