Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Sistani (may God protect him):
Leather goods made in non-Islamic countries, where it is uncertain whether they are made from pure natural or synthetic leather, are permissible for prayer. Similarly, if it is known that the leather is from an animal other than a pig, provided there is a possibility that it comes from a slaughtered animal (for example, if it is suspected that the leather is imported from Islamic countries), it is acceptable to assume purity and it is permissible to pray in them. However, if the mentioned possibility is weak to the extent that one is confident otherwise, such as a 2% chance, it is not considered valid.

Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Khamenei (may God protect him):
If a person is in doubt about whether something is part of an animal or not, such as doubting whether the leather they are using is natural or synthetic, it is ruled to be pure. Likewise, if it is known that it is from an animal but it is not known whether the animal had flowing blood, it is also ruled to be pure. However, if it is known that the animal had flowing blood and the leather is imported from non-Islamic countries and it is confirmed that it was not slaughtered according to Islamic law, then it is impure. If it is known or suspected that it was slaughtered properly, then it is pure.
