Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings.

Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Sistani (may God protect him):

It is strongly recommended to wash the face from the top downwards. However, if someone washed their face incorrectly due to ignorance, their ablution is not invalidated, and thus their prayers are also valid. Nevertheless, if they were negligent in their ignorance, it is strongly recommended to repeat the prayer.

Ayatollah al-Uzma Sayyid Khamenei (may God protect him):

The washing must be done from the top to the bottom, and if you wash in reverse, your ablution is invalidated, which also invalidates the prayers performed with such ablution. However, if you washed in reverse but intended to wash from the top while the water flowed back, it is permissible and valid.

May you be successful in all good.
