A person suffering from urinary incontinence is concerned about the requirement of purifying their body before performing ghusl (ritual washing). They often experience involuntary leakage during the washing process and seek clarification on whether they need to purify the affected area before starting the ghusl.

Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings.

Ayatollah Khamenei (may God protect him):

If the part of the body you intend to wash in the sequential ghusl is impure, it must be purified before washing it. However, it is not required for the entire body to be pure before the ghusl. Therefore, if you purify the affected part before the ghusl, your washing is valid. But if you do not purify the part before starting the ghusl and intend to purify it with a single wash, then your ghusl is invalid. This ruling applies equally to those suffering from incontinence and others.

Ayatollah Sistani (may God protect him):

It is sufficient to purify each part when washing it, and it is not necessary for all parts to be pure before starting. If a part is impure and you wash each part after purifying it, or purify it by washing the part - as long as the water is pure - it is sufficient. The impurity of a part after washing does not affect the validity of the ghusl. This ruling also applies equally to those suffering from incontinence and others.
