Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him):
1- It is permissible to work in law if it is solely for the defense of rights that are established by Sharia, rather than those established by secular law. In any case, the case being defended must be a just one that seeks truth and justice; otherwise, one does not deserve the fee received for it.
2- It is not permissible to assume the role of a judge unless one is qualified (i.e., a Mujtahid), and it must be in accordance with Islamic laws.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may Allah protect him):
1- The ruling varies depending on the circumstances, but in general, it is permissible to practice law in itself in matters that can be delegated and represented, and it is permissible to take a fee for it if it is for permissible work. However, it is not permissible to defend falsehood or anything that contradicts Sharia and to strive to prove it as the truth; one does not deserve a fee for that.
2- It is not permissible to assume the role of a judge unless one is qualified (i.e., a Mujtahid), and it must be in accordance with Islamic laws.
