Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him):
The prohibited mixing is that which does not ensure safety from falling into sin. However, if the mixing occurs in a conservative Islamic environment that adheres to the legal guidelines, avoiding prohibited sight and touch, and ensures safety from sin, then it is permissible; otherwise, it is not.
It is essential to maintain what is obligatory for women regarding non-mahram men in terms of hijab, avoiding softening or beautifying the voice when necessary to speak with non-mahram men, and refraining from discussing inappropriate topics while maintaining modesty in speech and exhibiting shyness. Nevertheless, it is preferable to avoid mixing altogether, as it usually leads to transgressing legal boundaries and social etiquette that should be observed.
