Peace be upon you. According to Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him), it is required for a virgin girl to have the consent of her father or paternal grandfather if she is not independent in her affairs. If she is independent, it is strongly recommended to obtain the consent of one of them. Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may Allah protect him) states that it is obligatory to seek permission from her father or paternal grandfather, and the contract is not valid without the consent of one of them. Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Wahid Khorasani (may Allah protect him) emphasizes that the permission of the guardian, either the father or paternal grandfather, is required for marrying a virgin. Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Zanjani (may Allah protect him) asserts that a marriage of a virgin without the permission of her father or grandfather is invalid. Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Ishaq Fayyad (may Allah protect him) states that a temporary marriage contract with a virgin is not permissible without the consent of the father or grandfather, even if there is no sexual intercourse. Lastly, Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Nasser Makarem Shirazi (may Allah protect him) mentions that a virgin must seek permission from her father or paternal grandfather for both permanent and temporary contracts, with the only exception being if they prevent her from marrying a suitable partner. May you be successful in all good deeds.
