And peace and mercy of Allah be upon you. The verse states: 'And abide in your houses and do not display yourselves as [was] the display of the former times of ignorance. And establish prayer and give zakah and obey Allah and His Messenger. Indeed, Allah intends to remove from you, O people of the Prophet's household, [all] impurity and to purify you with [extensive] purification.' This verse contains commands and prohibitions directed at the wives of the Prophet (peace be upon him). It concludes with the statement: 'Indeed, Allah intends to remove from you, O people of the Prophet's household, [all] impurity and to purify you with [extensive] purification.' The question seems to relate to this part: does 'the people of the household' refer to the Prophet's wives, or does it refer to Ali, Fatimah, Hasan, and Husayn (peace be upon them)? According to hadiths in the books of Ahl al-Sunnah, 'the people of the household' refers to Ali, Fatimah, and their two sons (peace be upon them), as narrated by Umm Salamah and Aisha in the well-known Hadith of the Cloak. The question remains: if this is the case, why is this part included in this verse? The answer is that the verse may have been revealed during the revelation of verses concerning the Prophet's wives and was placed in this position. The context is very suitable for its placement here. There is a deeper answer, but it requires preliminary discussions that are beyond the scope of this response. May you be successful in all good.
