Ayatollah Al-Uzma Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him):
If a person is ignorant and negligent in learning the religious rulings and is uncertain about the ruling when consuming something that breaks the fast, then expiation is required. This involves feeding ten needy people, with each person receiving a measure (mod) of food. If they are unable to do so, they should fast for three days. This applies to anyone who breaks their fast after noon, regardless of whether they were aware of the obligation of expiation or not.

Ayatollah Al-Uzma Sayyid Khamenei (may Allah protect him):
If the person is excused in their ignorance according to Sharia, then expiation is not required. Otherwise, it is required, and for someone who breaks their fast after noon, it involves feeding ten needy people. If they are unable to do so, they should fast for three days.
