Ayatollah Khamenei and Ayatollah Sistani (may Allah protect them):
All scholars clearly state, based on religious texts, that the duty of someone experiencing waswas is to disregard these whispers and assume the purity of anything they doubt. Even if they are certain of something being impure, they should still act as if it is pure. If they follow this religious ruling, they are excused before Allah, even if their actions contradict reality.
Advice:
It is essential to work on correcting this condition and overcoming this behavior, which can be achieved in two stages:
First Stage: Recognize that this state is blameworthy both rationally and religiously, as it deviates from moderation and wastes one's energy without any benefit. Waswas is not a form of piety or a desirable concern for religious rulings; rather, it indicates a disturbance in one's perception and a weakness in willpower, yielding to the whispers of the evil one, as mentioned in the hadith. Once this understanding is clear, one can move to the second stage.
Second Stage: Strive diligently to control oneself and assert one's will against the devil's manipulations. One should resolve to do this, confident that Allah will not punish them for disregarding what they doubt on the Day of Judgment. If they doubt the purity of water, they should not concern themselves and assume purity, following the usual practice. The more they ignore these doubts, the weaker the influence of the imagination will become until the devil gives up on them, allowing them to maintain a balanced approach to purity and impurity. They should be assured that if they enter this challenge, they will prevail, with Allah's support, as the devil's schemes are weak, as Allah says, "Indeed, the plot of the devil is weak." May Allah guide you to what is right.
