Peace be upon you.

Ayatollah Khamenei (may Allah protect him):

If someone did not fast during Ramadan due to illness, and if their illness continues until the next Ramadan, they are exempt from making up the fast, but they must give a measure of food to the poor for each day missed.

Ayatollah Sistani (may Allah protect him):

If someone misses Ramadan or part of it due to illness, and the illness continues until the second Ramadan, they are exempt from making up the fast and must give a measure of food for each day missed. The make-up fast does not suffice for the charity. However, if they missed it for a reason other than illness, they must make it up.

They cannot give this compensation before the next Ramadan arrives. There is no obligation on their heirs in this case.

They can only give the compensation after the illness has persisted to a point where they cannot fast or make it up. There is no obligation on their heirs if they pass away before the next Ramadan.

May you be successful in all good.
