Ayatollah Al-Uzma Sayyid Muhammad Saeed Al-Hakim (may his soul be sanctified):
It is recommended for a man, after urinating, to perform istibra by cleansing the passage from any remaining urine. The preferred method is to wipe with some pressure from the anus to the base of the penis three times, then to squeeze the base of the penis towards its tip three times to extract any remaining urine, and then to flick the tip of the penis three times.
- If a person experiences a questionable wetness after urination that could be either urine or other pure substances like pre-seminal fluid, if he has performed istibra, he assumes his state is pure and that his wudu (ablution) is not invalidated by it, provided he had performed wudu. If he has not performed istibra, he assumes it is impure and that his wudu is invalidated by it.
- The same ruling applies if he knows that the passage is clean from urine due to squeezing, movement, or a long duration, etc.
If someone who did not perform istibra doubts whether wetness has exited, he assumes it has not, and he assumes the passage is pure if he has purified it, and that his wudu is not invalidated if he has performed wudu.
- If someone who did not perform istibra knows that pre-seminal fluid or similar pure substances have exited and doubts whether urine has exited with it, he assumes urine has not exited, and that the wetness is pure, and that his wudu is not invalidated if he has performed wudu.
What has been mentioned about assuming impurity and invalidation of wudu is specific to cases where the type of wetness is unknown, not when it is known to be pure and there is doubt about urine exiting with it.
- If a person doubts whether he performed istibra or not, he assumes he did not perform it, even if it is his habit to do so, unless the doubt arises from waswasah (whispers of the devil).
Similarly, if he doubts whether he performed istinja (cleaning after relieving oneself), he assumes he did not perform it, even if it is his habit to do so, unless it is due to waswasah as well.
- If he performed istibra or istinja and then doubts whether it was done correctly, he assumes it was done correctly.
- There is no istibra for women, and the wetness that exits from them is considered pure, so they are not required to perform wudu from it unless they know it contains urine. However, it is preferable for them to wait a little, clear their throat, then squeeze the area of urine horizontally and perform istinja afterward.
May you be successful in all good.
