Peace be upon you.

His Eminence Ayatollah Al-Sistani (may Allah preserve him):

It is not permissible to buy and sell non-hunting dogs. However, it is valid for someone who has the right of ownership over them to receive money to relinquish his claim, allowing the payer to take possession of the dog, thus becoming the rightful owner. As for cats, lions, wolves, and similar animals, it is permissible to sell them if they have a lawful benefit.

His Eminence Ayatollah Al-Khamenei (may Allah preserve him):

It is permissible to buy and sell guard dogs, hunting dogs, and herd dogs; however, it is not permissible for other types, and one cannot use their price. Yet, it is valid for someone who has the right of ownership over them to receive money to relinquish his claim, allowing the payer to take possession of the animal, thus becoming the rightful owner. Selling cats is permissible, and their price is lawful without any doubt. As for other types of wild animals, it seems permissible if they have a lawful benefit intended by rational people.
