Peace be upon you. All children go through a critical phase at this age, especially those living in Western countries, where they interact with peers from different faiths, and some institutions and schools may present doubts about our beliefs. Therefore, we must play a proper role to convince our children without alienating them from Islam and the hijab, and without complicating their lives in that society. One of the most important methods parents can adopt in such situations regarding the hijab or other Islamic teachings is to use simple Islamic concepts that align with human nature. For example, we can explain that Islam encourages honesty, love, fulfilling trusts, preserving family, respecting parents, and avoiding injustice—values that resonate with human instincts. At this age, it is usually difficult for children to challenge us with the idea that these values exist in other religions as well. Regarding the hijab specifically, we can present it in simple ways, such as explaining to young girls that they are like rare jewels that should not be exposed to everyone, unlike boys. Most importantly, we should present these ideas and discussions with our children in a smart way that makes them love Islam and the hijab. This can be achieved by engaging them gently, showing them how much we love them, being role models by practicing those teachings, and demonstrating that Islam and the hijab bring them honor and dignity, rather than being a prison or a restriction that prevents them from socializing, learning, and progressing on all intellectual and cultural levels.
