Peace be upon you.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him):

It is not permissible to place items containing Quranic verses or the names of the infallibles (peace be upon them) in trash bags, as this constitutes disrespect and humiliation. Therefore, they must be removed from such places. It is permissible to erase the writing using some chemicals, bury it in a pure place, or cut it into very small pieces like dust. Burning is not allowed if it is considered disrespectful, and it is generally prohibited as a precaution.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may Allah protect him):

It is not permissible to place items containing Quranic verses or the names of the infallibles (peace be upon them) in trash bags, as this constitutes disrespect and humiliation. Therefore, they must be removed from such places. The blessed names and Quranic verses can be cut into many pieces so that no two letters remain connected, rendering them unreadable if considered disrespectful. If erasing the name of Allah or Quranic verses does not suffice, it is not acceptable. There is no issue in burying them in the ground or turning them into dough with water. However, burning is problematic; if it is considered disrespectful, it is not permissible unless absolutely necessary and if it is not possible to cut out the Quranic verses and blessed names.
