Peace be upon you. I always appreciate your responses, and I ask Allah to grant you success in all good. I have some questions, may Allah reward you well: If I traveled a distance of 30 kilometers and then returned, and the call to prayer was made, is my prayer during the return trip shortened? Peace be upon you. According to Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him): The limit for shortening prayers during the return trip is not considered the same as during the outgoing trip. A traveler shortens their prayer until they enter their city, and reaching the limit for shortening does not matter. However, it is preferable to delay the prayer until entering the city or to combine shortening and completing the prayer if they pray after reaching the limit for shortening. According to Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may Allah protect him): A traveler who leaves their homeland intending to travel the legal distance shortens their prayer from the moment they reach a certain limit. Likewise, on the way back, they must pray in full from the moment they reach that limit, known as the 'limit for shortening.' However, it is recommended to combine shortening and completing the prayer in the distance between the limit for shortening and the city. May you be successful in all good.
