Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may Allah protect him):
- For events other than the eclipses, such as earthquakes, one must act promptly as soon as the event occurs, especially if the time is limited. However, if there is ample time, there is no obligation to rush. If the individual does not pray until the time connected to the event has passed, the obligation is lifted, although it is recommended to perform the prayer as long as one is alive.
- The obligation is specific to the location where the event is felt (even if the individual does not personally feel it). If the area is very large such that one side does not feel the event while it occurs on the other side, the ruling applies only to the side where the event is felt.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may Allah protect him):
- If one is aware of the event (other than eclipses) at the time it occurs and does not perform the prayer, even out of forgetfulness, it is obligatory to perform it. However, if one is unaware of the event at the time and learns of it afterward, it is strongly recommended to perform the prayer.
- Events that necessitate the prayer can be confirmed through one of the following three methods:
1) The individual feels it themselves.
2) Through any means that leads to knowledge or certainty.
3) The testimony of two just witnesses.
