Peace be upon you.
His Eminence Ayatollah Sistani (may Allah protect him):
If someone deliberately breaks their fast during the day in Ramadan, they must make up that day and perform a compensatory act. They have the option to either free a slave, feed sixty poor people, or fast for two consecutive months. If they choose to fast, it is sufficient to fast for one month and one day consecutively, and they may separate the remaining days afterward, even if they choose to do so without a valid excuse. However, if there is no valid excuse recognized by common understanding, it is advisable to observe caution in this matter.
There is no requirement for continuity between making up the day and the fasting of the expiation.
His Eminence Ayatollah Khamenei (may Allah protect him):
If someone deliberately breaks their fast during the day in Ramadan, they must make up that day and perform a compensatory act. They can either free a slave or feed sixty poor people or fast for two consecutive months. Since there are no slaves in our time to free, the individual must choose one of the other two options.
If they choose to fast, they must fast for a complete month and one day from the second month while maintaining continuity, and they may separate the remaining days afterward.
There is no requirement for continuity between making up the day and the fasting of the expiation.
May you be successful in all good.
