It is possible that the term 'alteration' refers to a figurative alteration, meaning that the Quran is interpreted incorrectly. This type of alteration is acknowledged by all Muslims.
If this is what is meant by alteration in the mentioned narrations, then so be it. However, if the intention is literal alteration, where words are added or removed, this contradicts the Quran itself, which states: (Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will preserve it).
If you say: Perhaps this verse is altered.
I say: The community has unanimously agreed that there is no addition to the Quran. This consensus proves that the Quran is preserved, with neither additions nor omissions.
An important indication of the absence of alteration is the agreement among different sects on the current Quranic text; different sects rarely agree on anything, even on the prayer, which is the pillar of religion, as they differ in its preliminaries and some of its actions. So why have they agreed on the Quran, especially when they are in dire need to establish their beliefs?
As for what is mentioned in some narrations, such as the reading of Ibn Mas'ud: (And Allah sufficed the believers in fighting - with Ali), these are interpretative readings. And Allah knows best.
May you continue to be successful in all good.
