Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Khamenei (may God protect him):
Masturbation is absolutely forbidden, and if it leads to ejaculation, it necessitates a ritual purification (ghusl). If this occurs while fasting during Ramadan, it is considered equivalent to deliberate breaking of the fast, which invalidates the fast. The person must then fast for two consecutive months or feed sixty needy people, and it is recommended to do both.

Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sistani (may God protect him):
Masturbation (i.e., ejaculation without direct contact with one's spouse) is religiously prohibited. If one knows it breaks the fast or is uncertain about its effect, then their fast is invalid. If one is aware of this and is negligent, they must perform a compensatory act (kaffarah) along with making up the fast. For the kaffarah, it suffices to give charity to sixty needy people, each receiving 750 grams of wheat or bread (or to fast for two consecutive months).
