The Quranic verses indicate that Ibrahim (peace be upon him) and his son Ismail (peace be upon him) raised the foundations of the house. This raising of the foundations could refer to its initial construction or its reconstruction.
The correct interpretation is the second one; because Ibrahim (peace be upon him) said before his son Ismail (peace be upon him) grew up and they raised the foundations: (Our Lord, indeed I have settled some of my descendants in a valley with no vegetation near Your Sacred House) [Ibrahim: 37]; thus, the Sacred House was already there at that time.
It has been narrated that the house existed since our father Adam (peace be upon him) descended, and it was raised during the flood, and it is called the 'Ancient House' because it was saved from drowning. Refer to: [Tafsir al-Qummi, Vol. 1, pp. 60-62].
Regarding its meaning as (the first house established for mankind), Sheikh Al-Tusi (may his soul be sanctified) stated in his Tafsir al-Tibyan: "It is called the first house because there was no house before it to which people would pilgrimage. It has been narrated from Ali (peace be upon him) that he said: The first house established for worship is the Sacred House" [Tafsir al-Tibyan, Vol. 2, p. 535].
May you be successful in all that is good.
