Ayatollah Khamenei (may God protect him):
It is more appropriate for a believer to engage in mourning for Abu Abdullah Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) on the day of Ashura, and believers should not deprive themselves of the blessings of Imam Hussein's Ashura.

Ayatollah Sistani (may God protect him):
One should not engage in activities during the days of the tragedies and mourning of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) that one would not normally do during their own times of grief and sorrow for loved ones, except for what is necessitated by common necessity. It is better to choose a time that does not interfere with the requirements of mourning and sadness.
Indeed, if it leads to disrespect, such as celebrating joy and adornment on the tenth of Muharram or is considered a form of indifference to what happened to the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), then it is forbidden.
