Q1) Who will kill Imam Al-Mahdi?
According to the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), it is well-known among Shia scholars that he stated: "This matter will be held by twelve Imams from the descendants of Ali and Fatimah; none of us will die except by poisoning or being killed" (Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 27, p. 217). Imam Al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) is one of the Imams of the Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them) and the last of them, thus he is included in this narration, meaning he will leave this worldly life due to being killed or poisoned.
As for being killed, we have not found anything in our available sources that indicates this except for what was mentioned by Al-Yazdi in his book (Ilzam al-Nasib, p. 190, from the first edition) without citing a source, where he said: "...and among what negates his belief: the return of Muhammad and his family... until he says... when the seventy years are completed, the proof will die, and a woman from Banu Tamim named Saida, who has a beard like men, will kill him with a stone from above a roof while he is passing by the road. When he dies, Al-Husayn (peace be upon him) will take care of his burial... What we have mentioned here is extracted from the narrations of the pure Imams...".
As for poisoning, we have not found any hadith explicitly stating that Imam Al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) will be poisoned.
Q2) Life continues after Imam Al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) until the Day the trumpet is blown, and all creatures die, then it will be blown again, and people will be resurrected from their graves to the gathering. There are narrations indicating that the Imams (peace be upon them) will return to this world to rule after Imam Al-Mahdi (peace be upon him), and this period is referred to as the return.
In Al-Ikhtisas, Sheikh Al-Mufid narrates from Abu Abdullah (peace be upon him): He was asked about the return, is it true? He said: Yes. It was asked: Who is the first to return? He said: Al-Husayn will come after the Qa'im (the one who rises) (peace be upon him). I asked: Will everyone be with him? He said: No, but as Allah mentioned in His Book: "On the Day the trumpet is blown, and you will come in groups" (An-Naba: 18) - people after people.
And he (peace be upon him) said: Al-Husayn will come with his companions who were killed with him, along with seventy prophets as they were sent with Musa ibn Imran, and Al-Qa'im (peace be upon him) will give him the ring, and Al-Husayn (peace be upon him) will be the one to wash, shroud, and perfume him, and he will bury him in his grave.
May you be successful in all good.
