Peace be upon you.

Ayatollah Khamenei (may Allah protect him):

You must pay khums on the amount you used to purchase the stocks, taking into account inflation. If you acquired them with the intention of trading and making a profit, you must pay khums on the increase in value at the end of the khums year if they can be sold. If they cannot be sold, the increase in value is considered profit for the year of sale, and if it is not spent on necessary expenses by the end of the khums year, it must be subject to khums.

Ayatollah Sistani (may Allah protect him):

Yes, khums is required based on the price at which it was purchased from you.
